Using the Gimp package from https://snapcraft.io/store worked for me, then I uninstalled the crashing version.
I believe I was mistaken, I discovered a 2nd version of Gimp upon right-clicking an image, the working version presumably from the Snap store. The weird things is, they both claim to be Gimp...
Got Gimp from https://snapcraft.io/store. Gimp still crashes. When I get a chance I'll look for bug reports.
I reinstalled Gimp, but Gimp still crashes. I'll do a snap or Flatpack install.
24.04 was a clean install. I just installed Gimp using APT, how could you tell if the Gimp pkg was a snap or .deb?
Last week Gimp worked normal, was running 22.04 LTS. After installing 24.04 LTS Gimp is seg-faulting. I'm not good at analysing crash messages, what would this indicate?
```
I read an article mentioning this just this morning off some Facebook link, I didn't have any problem installing a .deb file without first manually installing gdebi,just worked.
Thanks, that did the job.
...just for clarification here is a screenshot of what I'm referring to:
I recently installed Ubuntu MATE 22.04.4 LTS, and noticed that the checkbox to disable the Welcome banner(booting to desktop) is no longer there. It's not a big deal, but I really have no use for...
The Ubuntu installer Ubiquity will give you options for creating an encrypted partition.
Thanks. Yes, I am obsessive about backups.
I just installed Noble Numbat, used the ISO available on Thu 18 Jan 2024 . Is it possible to just update / upgrade like a rolling release, rather than doing a whole fresh install ?
I found a post on reddit where an Arch-Linux user made the statement that the "bug" was associated with Mate's compositor marco and a new version of the nvidia driver. he referred to a bug report...
Never had this occur until recent times, now it's happened on 3 different machines. Google search shows that the "Ubuntu Login Loop" associated with a recent Nvidia driver installation is happening...
OK so I did a tty login, removed the nvidia drivers and enabled the Nouveau driver. So now I can work on what happened, because I want to know(yes, I'm jiggy like that). Although, I did earleir...
This was/ is release 20.04.4, Mate DE. Since this conversation began, I've since re-installed and am staying with the 470 drivers, there doesn't appear to be any benefit to upgrading to the 512.xx...
This machine doesn't have Secure Boot, has legacy BIOS. I had just installed Ubuntu, and chose the 510 Nvidia Proprietary Drivers from the "Software & Updates / Additional Drivers feature. Upon...
After installing Nvidia drivers and rebooting I've encountered the " loop back to login" situation. If there's a solution to get past this ,I would love to know.
I'm glad someone else brought it up first...[/QUOTE]
It's a shame, I was just braggin' on Ubuntu forums for it's not being snarky...you guys proved me wrong.
It's an erroneous message that popped up, probably shouldn't have mentioned it, apparently something to do with Celluloid, as VLC would play the .ISO just fine.
? Of course not, I just...
I used Brasero to rip backup copies of several DVDs, creating .ISO images which I can open and play with VLC, or burn to disc. Most are 4.7GB in size, but one (the Martian) turned out to be 7.9GB. ...
This little jewel actually may be useful still, it has a dual core Pentium D and Windows Media addition. Of course you wouldn't want to take it on the internet, but it could function as a HTPC.
